BMW - Neue Klasse Launch
In which I cover some of the important new details
As previously anticipated in the deep dive, BMW has now officially unveiled the first of its production-ready “Neue Klasse” BEV models, the 2026 iX3 50 Xdrive. You can watch the keynote here.
As a reminder (of if you’re new to the story), for the last handful of years BMW has been pursuing a process of behind-the-scenes re-invention. Re-invention of product, technologies, design, manufacturing and supply chain. The new iX3 marks the first of 40 new Neue Klasse models to hit the road between now and 2027. As I have argued previously, BMW was already in a much stronger competitive position relative to legacy rivals, and this gap is now opening even wider. Without question, Neue Klasse marks BMW’s most transformational portfolio reinvention in decades. If you’re curious to learn more, Part I of my BMW deep dive remains free to read.
In this post, my intention is to bring you up to speed on the some important pieces of information that were not yet publicly known at the time I published the deep dive. I’ll also get into what this means for BMW’s competitive position from here. Spoiler: it’s good news.
